Mental Health Therapy in Idaho
Suffering from a mental health disorder can feel overwhelming and leave one feeling vulnerable and powerless. Much is still not understood as to what causes different disorders. Some theories indicate a genetic/hereditary contribution, other theories indicate environmental contributions, and yet still other theories suspect the combination of genes and environment to explain the origination of mental illness. Fortunately, despite these many theories, we have still been able to find effective ways to help individuals recover and regain satisfying mental health. I am committed to staying up-to-date on the most effective therapeutic strategies and techniques that have been shown to help in resolving mental health problems. Currently, I incorporate some of the following evidence-based models and techniques when treating mental health disorders:
  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) - highly effective in treating trauma and PTSD
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - effective in modifying thoughts and behaviors
  • Psychodynamic Therapy - useful in gaining insight and understanding
  • Mindfulness - helpful in self-awareness and relaxation
  • Systemic Therapy - helps in understanding and changing interpersonal interactions

In addition to the above techniques, I also work hard at fostering a strong therapeutic alliance with each of my clients. Research shows that 45% of the change that happens in therapy comes from how well clients connect to their therapist. Therefore, I focus much of my attention on maintaining a respectful, empathic, and collaborative relationship with clients as we work to resolve their concerns.
